EPL Review: Arsenal Fail Their First Test, Chelsea Roll on, Spurs and Wenger
The big story of this last weekend in the EPL calender was Manchester United coming from behind against Arsenal to win and Arsene Wenger's subsequent sending off.
The game between the two giants was hailed as the first "classic" of the season, but that description couldn't have been further from the truth.

Arsene Wenger Lets Himself and Arsenal Down for the Second Time This Week.
Arsene Wenger is normally a dignified man, but his actions and words this week have let himself and his fans down very badly.
The week started well...
Wilson Palacios: The Kind of Player Spurs Haven't Had in 30 Years
Jermain Defoe, Luka Modric, and Aaron Lennon have claimed all the plaudits as Spurs soar towards the summit of the EPL, but the real hero at White Hart Lane has been Wilson Palacios.
With four wins out of four, Spurs have gotten off to their best start to a league campaign in 49 years. The last time they achieved that feat, they went on to win the league...

EPL Review: Lescott To Man City, Everton Get Burned, Spurs, and Vidic
The second weekend in the Premiership calendar produced some great team performances and this season's first draw—and probably the worst game we'll see this year—and Spurs' best start to a league campaign since 1960!
The pick of Saturday's games was Arsenal's demolition of Portsmouth, thanks to an offside goal, the ref missing a sending off, and one of the biggest flukes you'll see any year.

Tottenham In Virgin Territory After Beating West Ham 2-1
The two smallest players on the pitch combined to give the Tottenham Hotspur all three points at Upton Park today, but they had to thank West Ham's Carlton Cole for one of the strangest passes in football history before they got back into the game.
Shane Supple Retires From Football At 22 To Choose A Life Less Ordinary
Ipswich Town's Shane Supple has taken the decision to retire from professional football at the tender age of 22 after he "fell out of love" with the game.
In a fitting final act before retiring, the young star saved the final Shrewsbury penalty in last week's Carling Cup tie, which sent the Tractor Boys through to the next round.

EPL Review: Chelsea Are a Machine, United Get Burned, Spurs & Rafa To Be Sacked
The opening weekend came up with its fair share of stories, and even though there were only six matches on show for the second fixture date, it could prove to be one of the most memorable in the EPL calender.
The game at Turf Moor had everything a Burnley fan could ever dream of...

EPL Review: City Are Lazy, Wenger Knows Nothing, Spurs and Rafa...
After three months without a ball being kicked in anger, and no I'm not counting the Confederations Cup as a meaningful competition, the English Premier League roared back into action.
As we've grown a custom to, the early fixture wet our appetites for all that the EPL represents...

Super Spurs Beat Lacklustre Liverpool, As The Reds Begin Life Without Alonso
A Benoit Assou-Ekotto screamer and a Sebastien Bassong header were enough to finish off Liverpool at White Hart Lane today. The win was fully deserved for a Spurs side who restricted Liverpool to few chances, and only a Steven Gerrard penalty denied Tottenham the clean sheet their play deserved.
EPL 2009/10: Tough Season Ahead For Martin O'Neill and The Aston Villa
The chorus of boos that resounded around Villa Park after Wigan's 2-0 win yesterday signalled that Martin O'Neill's third year in charge of Aston Villa is one that is going to be extremely tough.
Last season, Villa were the team who seemed to be challenging the monopoly of the top four on the coveted Champions League places. Playing the O'Neill way, a well organised Villa outfit proved to be one of the toughest teams to break down in the league.

The opening weekend of Premiership football action for the 2009/10 season kicks off tomorrow. As always there are matches that jump out, but none more so than Liverpool's trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

Sudden Death Of Daniel Jarque Stuns Espanyol and Football World
Espanyol's captain, Daniel Jarque, has died after he suffered a heart attack during a training session in Italy with the club.
Club doctors and Italian paramedics tried to revive the 26-year-old without success.
Jarque joined Espanyol in 1995 as a 12-year-old, and has been a regular in the Catalan side since he made his debut in 2002. He was named as captain only this summer.
Life In The Championship Will Be Tight, As Day One Results Prove
Everyone expects this year's Championship to be one of the closest battles in years. No less than 12 teams will be battling it out for promotion, while for many, the difference between the playoffs and the relegation zone will only be a few points.
Today's results offer credence to that theory. Of 11 matches played between the opening two days, only three teams won, while eight games finished all square.
The opening day's fixture list threw out two matches that caught everyone's attention.

Everton Unveil Their New Away Jersey With a Haka For Liverpool
Everton have finally unveiled their new 2009/10 away jersey.
To huge fan-fare, the official Everton shop was taken over by a bunch of pink pin-striped Maori's who proceded to give their version of the Haka, which was aimed at city rivals Liverpool.
The pink pin-striped ensemble is not the worst away kit we've seen this season. Newcastle, Partick Thistle, and a few others have really out done themselves, but even still, come on lads...a Haka?

Xabi Alonso Transfer Piles Pressure on Rafael Benitez to Produce, or Else...
The worst kept secret in football finally came to a close last night as Xabi Alonso completed his protracted transfer from Liverpool to Real Madrid.
In reality, the deal was not as long-winded as most would have you believe. The two clubs amazingly agreed upon the £30 million transfer fee less than 24 hours after the 25 percent sell on clause, which would have seen Real Sociadad claim up to £7.5 million, had lapsed...

Earlier this week, Xabi Alonso handed in a transfer request at Liverpool. Unhappy that his manager is holding out on the players move to Real Madrid, Alonso took that extra step and put the final nail in the coffin.
Here's a transcript of their final conversation as Rafael Benitez tries to talk Xabi into staying by singing Chiquitita by ABBA...
